Gibbes Museum of Art
The Gibbes Museum and Society 1858's Prize for Contemporary Southern Art is awarded annually to an artist whose work contributes to a new understanding of art in the South. The Prize recognizes the highest level of artistic achievement and welcomes applications from artists working across any media. Eligible artists must reside, work in, or be from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The winning artist receives a $10,000 cash award and their work will be selected by the Gibbes Curatorial Team, in collaboration with the artist, for display in the Mary Jackson Modern and Contemporary Galleries for a full year following the winner ’s announcement. Society 1858, a member auxiliary group of the Gibbes Museum of Art, supports this initiative with social and educational programs for up-and-coming art patrons.
A $10,000 cash award and a year-long exhibition of the winning artwork at the Gibbes Museum of Art in the Mary Jackson Modern and Contemporary Galleries.
Artists who reside, work in, or are from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia are encouraged and eligible to apply.
