About the Open Call

8WEEKSinFEZ, hosted by Fez Art Residency, celebrates Fez Medina as a city of creativity where tradition and imagination meet. The residency provides selected visual artists with time, space, and inspiration in private apartments within the heart of the Fez Medina for flexible periods of 1 to 8 weeks between September and October 2025. There are no production or exhibition requirements, allowing artists the freedom to explore, recharge, experiment, or reconnect with their practice. Fez, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a unique cultural environment with its artisan workshops, historic sites, and vibrant daily life, encouraging artists to engage with the city as both setting and subject. Optional add-ons like studio access, artisan visits, and cultural workshops are available at additional cost to deepen the experience. This residency is distinct for its flexibility, artist-led approach, and deep roots in the local culture, offering funded accommodation without creative pressure.

What is Offered

Free private accommodation in the heart of Fez Medina for 1 to 8 weeks. Selected artists receive fully covered accommodation costs. The residency provides time, space, and creative freedom with no production or exhibition requirements.

Requirements

Open to visual artists of all levels and disciplines, aged 18+. Applicants should be curious, self-directed, and open to cultural exchange. Welcome applications from artists at all stages, including full-time, emerging, or those balancing other work. No Arabic or French language skills are required as the residency is in English.

How to Apply

Applicants are required to submit a link to their work (website or Instagram), a short artist bio, and a few lines about how they would use their time in Fez. Applications are submitted via a Google Form, accessible through the 'APPLY NOW' links.
