The Museum of Loss and Renewal
WANDERING ROCKS and EARTHY MATTERS is devised around the relationships of ‘Air, Sea and Soil’, encompassing the Orkney Islands’ natural environment. Residents will be welcomed to the ancient Birsay area of Orkney, where the bespoke programme includes visits to Neolithic World Heritage Sites. Led by artist-facilitators Tracy Mackenna and Mary Bourne, with contributions from multidisciplinary experts, the residency prompts reflection on how tangible matter interacts with place, culture, and ecological memory. The programme is partially structured with hands-on site-based working sessions, presentations, and mentored collective and individual practice.
7 nights, 8 days of residency programming, 5-star self-catering accommodation in single rooms, professional work spaces, and collection/return to nearest airport/ferry point. Residency fee is £1350 GBP.
Open to creative practitioners in all disciplines at any stage of development. Applicants must have a good working knowledge of English. Open to international applicants and creative duos/partnerships. Residents are responsible for their own travel, insurance, and subsistence.
