Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) and Renwick Gallery
SAAM and the Renwick Gallery invite applications for their premier fellowship program, the oldest and largest in the world for the study of American art. Fellowships support full-time residential research in Smithsonian collections. Scholars from any discipline are encouraged to apply. The program offers several fellowship tracks including the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program (SIFP), the Betsy James Wyeth Fellowship in Native American Art, and the Audrey Flack Short-Term Fellowship.
Stipends range from $5,000 for short-term fellowships to $57,000 per year for senior/postdoctoral fellowships, plus various research and travel allowances.
Applicants must be at graduate student, predoctoral, postdoctoral, or senior level. Must identify a SAAM staff advisor. Research must relate to American art, craft, or visual culture.
Applicants must identify a member of SAAM’s research staff to serve as a primary fellowship advisor and apply via the specific Smithsonian portal designated for the chosen fellowship track.
