About the Open Call

The AARK (Archipelago Art Residency in Korpo) is an artist-run, independent association located in a former ferry staff family house right by the sea on Korpo island in the Turku Archipelago, Finland. Easily accessible by public transport from Turku, the residency provides studios/apartments of varying sizes (56m2 to 72m2) with private kitchens and bathrooms, accommodating 1-2 artists or even families. It offers a sauna and laundry room. The unique environment, with its rocky shores, nearby forests, rich birdlife, and views of the sea route and passing cargo ships, serves as an inspiring theme for artists. AARK fosters both quiet retreats for focused practice and social settings with weekly informal meetings. The program encourages dialogue among residents and with the local community and environment. AARK celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025.

What is Offered

The residency offers a space to think and time to develop new ideas or continue works in progress. It provides a quiet retreat or a more social setting depending on the artist's needs, including weekly informal meetings. Studios/apartments with private kitchens and bathrooms, a sauna, and a laundry room are available. The unique archipelago environment offers inspiration for artistic work.

Requirements

The residency is open to art professionals from all disciplines. Applicants should be open to nature and the surrounding seaside as an interesting theme. Required application materials include a webpage link or low-resolution PDF portfolio, CV, intended residency dates, and a motivation letter.

How to Apply

Applications are ongoing. To apply, fill out the online formulary available on the website. Prepare the following files to submit: a link to your webpage or a low-resolution PDF portfolio, a CV including year of birth, nationality, and home address, your intended time for the residency (normally 1 to 3 full calendar months, exceptionally 1 or 2 weeks), and a motivation letter about your expectations for the residency. A 200€ confirmation payment is required upon approval, and the full residency fee must be paid before arrival.
