About the Open Call

Art at a Time Like This (ATLT) invites artists to submit proposals for Take One Action, a public art campaign taking place throughout New York City. Take One Action calls on artists to explore how their creative practice can support democratic freedoms amid widespread authoritarianism. We are seeking artworks that communicate one clear, concrete action that New York City residents can take to help protect democracy on a local or national level. The artwork must address a major issue and offer step-by-step actions that are attainable for broad audiences. Proposed actions and visual artworks must respond to a range of urgent civic, social, and environmental concerns. Artists selected for ATLT's public action will receive a $1,000 honorarium and have their artworks wheat-pasted across New York City in Fall 2026. Artworks will also be featured in a virtual exhibition.

What is Offered

$1,000 honorarium, public wheat-paste exhibition in NYC, and inclusion in a virtual exhibition.

Requirements

Must address a major democratic issue and offer step-by-step actions that are attainable for broad audiences. Submit one example of artwork (PDF or image).
