Audition for DIVIDED

About the Open Call

The production is a non-equity workshop presented in front of an audience at The Center for Performing Arts, Governors State University. Rehearsals will be held on campus. The musical 'Divided' follows two friends across decades, miles, and a country divided by race, religion, and politics, set pre- and post-Civil War. It spans from Mississippi to Boston, detailing their journey to reunite and find freedom. Curriculum connections include U.S. History, Social Studies, Political Science, Music, and SEL. Cast of Characters: Eleanor (Caucasian woman of 18 and 35), Hanna (an African American woman of 16 and 33), Connor (Caucasian man 20's), Joshua (African American man 20-30), Papa/Paddy (Caucasian man 40-50), Mama (Caucasian woman 50), Kathleen (Caucasian woman 20 and 40), Maude (Caucasian woman 40's), Jacob (Caucasian man 20's), Daniel/Hugh (Caucasian man 20's), Bridget (Caucasian woman of 18), Finley (Caucasian man 40 and 60), Ensemble (Caucasian and African American).

Opportunity to participate in a workshop production of a musical, with pay varying based on the role.

Requirements

Auditioners must provide a self-tape demonstrating vocal and acting skills (16-32 bars of a musical song, a monologue). They must also be prepared for an in-person dance audition and individual callbacks. Specific character roles are available for Caucasian women (18-35, 20, 40, 50), African American women (16, 33), Caucasian men (20s, 40-50, 40-60), African American men (20-30), and an Ensemble (Caucasian and African American).

How to Apply

Applicants must submit a self-tape (no longer than 3 minutes, including 16-32 bars of a standard musical song and a monologue) to scorum@govst.edu by July 28, 2025, 11:59 PM. Additionally, applicants must complete the DIVIDED audition form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScy2AdY_p5AyxN7ssEJ5X9B8fPcuIy48sWJjcLcLOZ9cfVSbg/viewform) and attend the in-person audition on July 30, 2025, from 6 PM to 10 PM at Governors State University, which will include a dance audition and individual callbacks.
