Balletto di Siena
The Balletto di Siena for the 2025/2026 theatrical season provides spaces within its complex at Piazza Maestri del Lavoro 31, Siena, Italy, including the Black Box performance area, to artists, choreographers, dancers, and performers. Black Box is an Artistic Residency center, a space for creation, ideation, and performances in the arts and dance. This open call is open to all individual or collective artists or artistic entities, whose objectives include creation, production, research, or representation in dance, art, and culture. The purpose of this call is to open up available spaces, hosting artistic personalities and facilitating their process of reflection, design, and realization of their art. As a center established and dedicated to the world of dance and art, Black Box will prioritize, in this V edition of residencies, projects that aim to enhance non-verbal language, innovation, and choreographic research, and emergent artists in contemporary performance, classical ballet, or any other form. Significant importance will be given to the artistic attitude demonstrated in the proposed project, as well as the quality of previous artistic works, reviewable via videos submitted with the new application. Spaces will be assigned and scheduled in agreement with selected artists from October 2025 to November 2025, with the possibility of part-time or full-time residency, as well as the inclusion of performances within Black Box's Winter Live Performance Season. Artists must respect the environments and usage/hygiene rules of the space. Requests for artistic residency can be made from Monday, August 18, 2025, for periods of a minimum of 3 up to a maximum of 31 days, or request hospitality for a single performance evening. The organization reserves the right to suspend the acceptance of applications if the maximum capacity limits of the spaces or the venue's event calendar are reached. The residency rooms available are 5, of different sizes, from a minimum of 97m2 to a maximum of 192m2, with a fixed height of 3.25m. Black Box features a performance space (walkable) of 61m2, equipped with 2 black side wings, 1 black backdrop, a black dance mat laid over the entire suspended wooden floor, and a lighting/audio system and console controllable from the booth. The performance will take place on Friday, November 21st, at 9:00 PM; candidates can present an excerpt of their work lasting a minimum of 10 minutes up to a maximum of 15/20 continuous minutes. At the end of the residency period, a declaration of the completed stay will be issued upon request.
Balletto di Siena offers residency spaces, including the Black Box performance area. Selected artists can have part-time or full-time residency for 3 to 31 days, or a single performance evening. The organization will cover the cost of INPS/Ex-ENPALS viability for the performance day and may provide accommodation for up to three performers if available. A declaration of completed residency will be issued upon request.
The call is open to individual or collective artists and artistic entities. Priority is given to projects enhancing non-verbal language, innovative choreographic research, and emerging artists in contemporary performance or classical ballet. Applicants must submit a brief project description, artist curricula, and videos of previous works. While the main body is open to 'all artists', a subtitle specifies 'Coreografi Under 35'. Artists are responsible for travel and board expenses.
Applications, duly completed and including a brief description of the project and curricula of the involved artist(s), must be sent via email to fds.ballettodisiena@gmail.com by October 31, 2025.
