Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
Curating While Black is a residency and embedded symposia for Black curators interested in advancing individual research projects through peer exchange, faculty feedback, writing studios, and symposia. The program is co-led by faculty Sally Frater, Michelle Jacques, and Crystal Mowry and supports curators at any level with institutional or independent practices.
Program fee includes accommodation on campus, a meal plan, access to specialized studio space, library and archives, fitness center, and group seminars/workshops.
Intended for Black curators with demonstrated professional experience in visual arts, material culture, performance, film/video, or public programming. Must be 18+ at program start date. International applicants welcome; must secure own visa.
Applicants must complete an online form, pay the application fee, and upload materials via SlideRoom, including a two-page resume, one-page cover letter, one-page project proposal, and a portfolio of up to ten images with a descriptive document.
