About the Open Call

The Development Fund supports UK documentary filmmakers in the early to late stages of a project’s development, including identifying sources, contributors, storylines, producing a teaser, or testing creative methods. The fund supports independent non-fiction films by UK filmmakers, focusing on director-led storytelling intended for theatrical release. Awards between £25,000 and £40,000 are available.

What is Offered

Non-recoupable grants of between £25,000 and £40,000 for documentary development.

Requirements

Applicants must be UK documentary filmmakers (producers/directors). Projects must be feature-length non-fiction intended for theatrical release. Must comply with BFI Diversity Standards.
