About the Open Call

The “Bom Dia” OASis Residency, hosted by Cultivamos Cultura, is open for 2026, offering a period of 7 to 30 days during April. This call welcomes international creators, artists, and researchers from various fields and disciplines, as well as practitioners and experts working at the intersection of culture and other disciplines. Applicants can apply individually or as a group (not exceeding 2 persons), with conditions and funding remaining the same for both. Selected resident(s) must be physically present at Cultivamos Cultura to create, produce, and implement their project. Residents will participate in the OASis residency program, which includes interacting with the local community through artist talks, walks, workshops, or open studio visits in São Luís and Odemira. This fosters collaboration and synergies between creators, the community, and other residencies. An artistic output is required for inclusion in the OASis project's group exhibition in 2027 and Cultivamos Cultura’s collection. Documentation of the residency (video, photographic, etc.) will be presented on webpages and social media. The jury evaluates proposals based on originality, feasibility with Cultivamos Cultura’s resources, and relevance to the call’s objectives, prioritizing projects inspired by local/natural materials, with strong ecological interest, and rooted in a sustainable future for a diverse community. Interaction with the local community (predominantly Portuguese-speaking) and exchange with international artists are highly valued. Results will be announced by January 31st via email and communication channels; individual feedback is not provided.

What is Offered

A limited budget for travel up to €500. Accommodation in a private room within a shared farmhouse in the center of São Luís, on Cultivamos Cultura’s property. Access to a shared, equipped kitchen for meal preparation. A project fee of €1300. An equitable per diem for food. Production/material expenses up to a maximum of €1600. Free access to all spaces and resources of Cultivamos Cultura. Access to a dedicated workspace/studio for the duration of the residency. Occasional support from the Cultivamos Cultura team.

Requirements

The call is open to international creators, artists, and researchers from various fields and disciplines, as well as practitioners and experts at the intersection of culture and other disciplines. Applicants may apply as individuals or in groups not exceeding two persons; the conditions and funding remain constant for both. Selected resident(s) must be physically present at Cultivamos Cultura. Residents are expected to be reasonably autonomous in executing and producing all project phases, assessed based on their recent portfolio. A core requirement is the production of an artistic output to be included in the OASis project's group exhibition in 2027 and added to Cultivamos Cultura’s collection, with video and photographic documentation to be produced. Project proposals are evaluated on originality, feasibility given Cultivamos Cultura's resources, and relevance to the call's objectives, specifically valuing projects inspired by local/natural materials, possessing a strong ecological interest, and rooted in a sustainable future for an expanded and diverse community. Interaction with the local community and exchange with international artists are also key considerations.
