The Other Art Fair
The Other Art Fair Chicago is seeking creative artists, designers, and fabricators to conceptualize, design, and fabricate unique, playable mini-golf holes for an interactive feature at their fall fair. Designs should be bold, engaging, and reflect the artist's unique voice, potentially incorporating interactivity, humor, narrative, or Chicago-inspired elements. Holes must be durable, playable by one person with standard equipment, and adhere to size limits (8 ft long x 4 ft wide, 5 ft max height). Modular construction is encouraged due to venue access. All technical elements must be battery-supported as no power outlets will be available. Artists are responsible for fabrication, installation, and delivery to Artifact Events in Chicago. The fair provides logistical support, golf clubs, balls, scorecards, signage, and onsite staff supervision.
Selected artists will receive a $500 artist fee, paid in installments. The opportunity offers high visibility with extensive foot traffic, press attention, and social media coverage. The Other Art Fair will also provide logistical support, golf clubs, balls, scorecards, signage, and onsite staff supervision.
Artists must create bold, creative, and engaging designs for playable mini-golf holes that reflect their unique artistic voice. Designs should be durable, suitable for thousands of fairgoers, and free of branded/commercial content unless pre-approved. Holes must not exceed 8 ft long x 4 ft wide and 5 ft high, accommodate a standard 4.25" golf cup, and be fully playable with a clear tee-off area. Modular construction is encouraged. All structures must be sturdy, stable, safe, with no sharp edges, loose parts, or trip hazards. Materials must be durable and cleanable. Technical elements must be battery-supported as no power outlets are available. Artists are responsible for fabricating, installing, and transporting their holes to/from Artifact Events in Chicago.
Applicants must submit a single application per mini-golf hole design, even if applying as a team. The application requires personal/team details (name, email, phone, Instagram, website), a working title for the proposed hole, a brief description of the idea and playability, a sketch or diagram, and photographic examples or a portfolio URL of previous fabricated artworks or industrial design experience.
