Call for entries: Productions for children aged 0-6 at FRATZ Festival 2026

About the Open Call

FRATZ International: Encounters - Symposium - Festival for the Very Young, presented by Theater o.N. in Berlin since 2013, has established itself as an important international children's theater festival in Europe. Held every two years, FRATZ invites remarkable guest performances to Berlin and hosts a symposium to discuss and explore the latest developments in dance and theater for very young audiences. The festival is aimed at children from 0-6 years and presents performances all across Berlin, emphasizing that art and culture should be accessible to all people, regardless of age or social or cultural background and for people with different developmental profiles. FRATZ 2026 will take place in Berlin from October 9-15, 2026. We are planning to invite 4 productions for children aged 0-6. This can be productions that are recommended for children at least as young as 3+. It could also be productions recommended for children as young as 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or 2 years old. Productions for children 4 years and older do not fit the profile of our festival. We are interested in bold, funny, serious, light, interdisciplinary, or genre-specific productions that experiment artistically in new directions in the performing arts for very young audiences. Productions that place particular emphasis on accessibility and the removal of barriers. In particular, we would like to offer a platform to artists who, due to marginalized perspectives, have been unable to find many or any opportunities to present their work.

What is Offered

Presentation at one or more Berlin venue(s); promotion of the program to national and international organizers and curators; a supporting program with opportunities for exchange, professional discourse and workshops; fees to be negotiated, based on current recommended pay rates in the Federal Republic of Germany; accommodation and travel/transport costs, as well as per diems or meals. Where longer flights are unavoidable, support will be provided for arranging further guest performances by other organizers/festivals before or after FRATZ International to promote sustainability.

Requirements

The production should have premiered between 30 September 2023 and 15 October 2025. It should be available for 2-4 performances between October 9-15, 2026 by arrangement. A video recording is required in order to participate. Productions for children 4 years and older do not fit the profile of the festival. Applicants must provide a link to a video recording, a short description, information about the producers, the artistic team, the cast, and a tech rider or information about the technical equipment.
