Squeeze Box
Squeeze Box, led by multi-disciplinary artist Hugh Malyon, is seeking a visual artist to create artistic elements for BOXED!, an immersive multi-media production taking place in May 2026. The commission is for either a set piece (posters, digital materials, objects) for 'The Waiting Room' or large-scale projection images/film for 'The Regulation Room'. The work explores themes of the medical and care system, resilience, and disabled joy. The project involves an escape-room style adventure culminating in a shared space for hope and care.
Artist fee of £750 for time and materials. Access requirements are covered separately. Artistic development support and logistical assistance provided by the creative team.
Must be based in the Southwest of England; identify as disabled, neurodiverse, sick, or an unpaid carer; emerging artist of any age; comfortable working to a loose brief and adaptable to feedback.
Send an email to hughmalyon@hotmail.com with a written response (up to 2 pages), video, or voice recording (up to 4 minutes). Include: 1) Information about your practice with 3 examples of art, 2) Your idea or proposal for BOXED! (sketches/moodboards encouraged), and 3) How the offer highlights the dehumanising experience of the care system or disabled joy.
