Embrace this unique opportunity for musicians to perform in chamber music workshops and concerts, in an environment that mirrors professional working conditions and timelines. This innovative program offers all participants: One-on-one mentorship by internationally renowned faculty (Parker Quartet, Joel Brennan, Lee Allen, Dai Fujikura, Nicolas Baldeyrou and Andrew Johnson), masterclasses and workshops, collaboration opportunities with composers, small ensemble rehearsals and performances with peers, sight-reading sessions and opportunities to present new works in concert and workshop settings, 24-hour access to one of Banff Centre's Performing Arts studios, multiple performances alongside renowned faculty and public engagement performance opportunity within the community of Banff, dedicated time for artistic development, communication, collaboration, interpretation, and innovative performance practices, and in-depth insights into the composer-performer creative process of new chamber works in development.
The program fee includes a single bedroom on the Banff Centre campus for the duration of the program, a credit-based meal plan equivalent to $68 per day, access to specialized studio spaces, opportunities to showcase work-in-progress, group seminars/workshops with faculty, access to the Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives, and full access to campus facilities including the Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation Centre (swimming pool, climbing gym, fitness suite) and Box Office Discounts for ticketed performances. Scholarships covering 100% of tuition are awarded to all arts participants, with additional scholarships available for accommodation and meal plans.
We welcome both individual musicians and established chamber ensembles. This program is ideal for classical musicians and composers eager to expand their artistry in a collaborative chamber music setting, strings, woodwinds, brass, pianists, and percussionists with a passion for working closely with peers and faculty. Current post-secondary students or recent graduates looking to grow, perform, and connect with world-class mentors are encouraged to apply. Two spots are reserved for aspiring composers. Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of the program start date. Domestic and international applications are welcome; however, Banff Centre programs do not meet Canadian Student Visa eligibility, and accepted international participants must obtain a Visitor Visa.
Applicants must complete an online form (Step 1), pay the application fee (Step 2), and upload supporting materials via SlideRoom (Step 3). Required materials include a two-page resume/C.V., a one-page cover letter, a list of up to three proposed chamber music pieces, a portfolio of work samples (audio/video for performers, scores and optional recordings for composers), and a resource request form. Financial aid applications are completed within SlideRoom. Group applications require the lead applicant to submit one application form, pay one $65 fee, and submit one SlideRoom application, with an additional $35 registration fee per member upon acceptance.
