About the Open Call

The theme 'Stillness in the Driftless' invites visitors to pause within the quiet beauty of the Mississippi River and the bluffs that cradle Dubuque. Artists are encouraged to submit proposals for existing sculptures as well as concept proposals for new sculptural work. Up to 11 sculptures will be chosen for a year-long outdoor exhibition. Selected works will explore presence, reflection, and connection, evoking the balance between movement and rest, nature and self.

What is Offered

$1,800 honorarium ($1,000 upon agreement, $400 upon installation, $400 upon removal), $1,000 Best of Show award, $200 People's Choice award, up to $200 in lodging and travel support, and sales opportunities (25% commission to the City).

Requirements

Works must be appropriate to the theme, demonstrate artistic merit, and be durable enough to withstand outdoor weather conditions and an unsupervised general audience. Selected artists are responsible for delivering, installing, and removing their work.

How to Apply

Artists must submit applications through the Slideroom portal. Up to three applications per artist are allowed, with each sculpture requiring a separate submission. Required materials include a bio, resume, cover letter, statement of proposed work (including installation needs), 2-4 photos or renderings, and two professional references.
