CreArt
The City of Lublin is opening a recruitment process and inviting artists from the CreArt network to apply for a 4-week artistic residency in Lublin, from November 5 to December 6, 2025. Lublin is a medium-sized city in eastern Poland, a thriving scientific and cultural center considered a city at the crossroads of Eastern and Western culture, with a rich history. It is home to numerous cultural institutions, museums, galleries, non-governmental organizations, and large festivals. Warsztaty Kultury is a local government cultural institution of the city of Lublin, established in 2009. Located in Lublin’s Old Town, its mission focuses on promoting "active culture" through open, non-standard, modern, interactive, interdisciplinary, and innovative activities, cooperating with artists and institutions globally. They also organize four major summer festivals in Lublin. Within the framework of CreArt 3.0, the city of Lublin and Warsztaty Kultury launch a residency for 2 artists: one from Lublin and one from the CreArt network. Artists in residence will have a mentor to assist them in settling into the city, facilitate their presentation to the local artistic community, and support the development and presentation of their project. The residency lasts 4 weeks, from November 5 to December 6, 2025. The final week involves putting together a small exhibition, open studio, or performance for residents to share their works with the public.
An artist fee of 700 EUR/gross will be paid up to 21 days after the residency. Production costs for new artwork(s) up to 500 EUR/gross may be provided if needed. The organizer will cover round-trip travel expenses (plane ticket from any CreArt city or closest airport to Lublin or Warsaw) and provide accommodation and two meals per day for artists coming from partner cities. Local artists will receive one meal per day. Artists will receive mentorship to help establish themselves in the city, for presentation to the artistic community, and support in project development and presentation. The residency culminates in a small exhibition, open studio, or performance.
Artists must be born or residing in one of the cities within the CreArt project network: Kaunas (Lithuania), Liepaja (Latvia), Skopje (North Macedonia), Aveiro (Portugal), Valladolid (Spain), Lublin (Poland), Venice (Italy), Clermont-Ferrand and Rouen (France), Regensburg (Germany), České Budějovice (Czech Republic), and Oulu (Finland). Members of HDLU (Croatian Association of Visual Artists) and Ukrainian artists through the Lviv Artistic Council «Dialogue» collaboration are also eligible. Applicants must have a university degree in art or documented artistic achievements demonstrating equivalent competences. Applications must be strictly individual; artist collectives will not be accepted. Proposed activities must be site-specific, directly linked to the context of the location and public space, and involve the temporary capture of space to create new ways of experiencing the city and its surroundings. Artists must possess a European health card or equivalent.
Applications must be submitted online via the form available at https://creart2-eu.org/open-calls/. Artists should register first and then upload their portfolio. In case of problems, applications can be sent by e-mail to creart@fmcva.org with the subject line "open call Lublin". The deadline for applications is 12th October 2024. Required documentation to be submitted in a single PDF document includes: scanned identity card or passport; a document proving connection with a CreArt network partner city; a short resume/CV (one A4); a portfolio (maximum 10 pages and 10 pictures, with optional links); and a site-specific project proposal (max one A4) describing the concept, method of interaction with public space, technical needs, and other relevant technical details.
