About the Open Call

The residency program is divided into two tracks: Art & Tech (focused on technology, data, accessibility, sustainability) and Art & Health (focused on wellness, care, and health tech). Selected fellows receive a $30,000 prize, access to state-of-the-art fabrication shops at Newlab Detroit, project-aligned research opportunities, and participation in public programming. The program seeks individual applicants above the age of 25 who can receive taxable U.S. income. Projects should be feasible within the 12-week timeframe and align with the thematic focus areas. The residency concludes with no formal completion requirement, though participation in public programs is mandatory.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 25 years old, an individual/sole entity (no groups), and eligible to receive taxable income via SSN, ITIN, or EIN.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Michigan Central Submittable platform. Applicants must create a free account, provide contact details, select their track (Art & Tech or Art & Health), answer project-related questions, upload up to five work samples, and disclose any use of AI tools.
