Colorado State University Spur
Colorado State University Spur invites applications for its Artist Residency Program, a six-month interdisciplinary opportunity for artists to engage with science, sustainability, and community. The residency takes place in 'The Shop,' a glass-front studio allowing public visibility of the creative process. The Spring 2026 cycle focuses on collaboration with the Urban and Community Forestry Hub, involving research in urban tree water use, wood utilization, the urban heat island effect, and wildfire mitigation. Artists are expected to maintain an active studio presence, participate in public events such as '2nd Saturdays,' and lead educational sessions for school groups. The program culminates in a solo exhibition at the CSU Spur campus.
$10,000 living stipend, $5,000 materials budget, $1,250 travel budget, private studio space, onsite housing (estimated value $9,681), access to CSU researchers and makerspace, and a solo exhibition with a public opening event.
Applicants must be mid-career or professional artists with an established studio practice. They must be comfortable working in a transparent studio environment, able to design and deliver educational programs for preK-12 learners, and commit to regular onsite work hours. Artists must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. or arrange their own visa.
Applications must be submitted through the CaFÉ website. Required documents include an artist statement, a resume or CV (max 2 pages), a portfolio (up to 10 images or 5 minutes of video), a residency proposal (max 750 words), a community engagement response, a statement of technical and logistical needs, and two professional references.
