Cobertizo
The residency focuses on providing artists with dedicated time and support to deepen their creative practice in a collective environment. Participants receive individual studios, opportunities for dialogue with curators and contemporary art professionals, and guidance throughout their working process. Cobertizo emphasizes accessibility, diversity, and critical artistic exchange, seeking to strengthen connections between artists working inside and outside Latin America. The residency concludes with an Open Studio event welcoming art professionals, former residents, and members of the local community. The program takes place in Jilotepec, Estado de México, and hosts 8 artists per edition. The residency includes accommodation in individual rooms, weekday breakfast and lunch, transportation between Mexico City and Jilotepec, mentorship and critique sessions, woodworking tools, studio space, and participation in the final Open Studio presentation. International travel, health insurance, specialized production materials, and personal expenses are not covered.

Applicants must be over 22 years old and meet one of the following criteria: Be born in Latin America or the Caribbean and currently reside in the United States, or Be born in the United States with Latin American or Caribbean heritage through their parents and maintain a meaningful connection to the region through artistic practice, research, cultural ties, or lived experience. Participants are expected to have a basic command of Spanish sufficient for conversations, group activities, and engagement with the local community. The Cobertizo team also provides English-language support. If included, it should be integrated into the portfolio.
