Digital Explorations

About the Open Call

Computer software and technology have expanded artistic production. Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) invites artists from the US, Canada, or Mexico to enter its 4th annual 'Digital Explorations' exhibition. This opportunity focuses on original 2D or 3D image-based work created and/or produced through digital software, including digitally produced photography, digital painting, illustration, graphic design, digital video, and projection. Works selected will be exhibited in MFA’s Circle Gallery from January 28 – February 28, 2026. The exhibition is co-chaired by Emil Petruncio and Erica Krieger, and juried by Andy Holtin, Professor of Extended Media at American University. Awards designated by the juror total $1,000. Artists may enter a maximum of 6 original works completed within the past 3 years; work previously exhibited at MFA Circle Gallery is not eligible. Maximum work size is 72″ in any direction. Artists retain 70% from sales (75% for MFA Members); work must be for sale. The exhibition schedule includes: Online Entry Opens Sept 23; Entry Deadline Nov 26, 2025; Notification Dec 17, 2025; Accepted Work Arrives Jan 23-25, 2026; Exhibition Opens Jan 28, 2026; Virtual Awards Ceremony Feb 1, 2026; Last Day of Exhibition & In-Person Reception Feb 28, 2026; Work Pick Up Mar 1-2, 2026; Shipped Work Sent Mar 8, 2026. In case of Circle Gallery closure, MFA reserves the right to move the exhibit online. All entrants receive email notification.

What is Offered

Exhibition opportunity at MFA's Circle Gallery, eligibility for awards totaling $1,000, and opportunity for art sales with a 70% (or 75% for members) commission.

Requirements

Artists must reside in any of the states or territories of the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Entries must be original 2D or 3D image-based work created and/or produced through digital software. A maximum of 6 original works created within the past 3 years may be entered. Work previously exhibited at MFA Circle Gallery is not eligible for re-entry. Maximum size of work, including edges of artwork or frame, cannot exceed 72″ in any direction. Work must be for sale.
