About the Open Call

This residency program provides opportunities for a diverse group of artists to advance their careers and knowledge of developing new media studio technologies and practices. It supports experimentation in electronic, time-based, and new media artworks. The iea video and sound studio offers artists an integrated system with real-time video image-processing software, hardware, and video capture. Residents are expected to engage with the Alfred University campus and community through public lectures, demonstrations, or workshops.

What is Offered

$1000-$2000 stipend, housing, 24/7 studio access, technical support, and materials support (for Print + New Media track).

Requirements

Open to national and international artists (New Media track) or NY State residents only (Print + New Media track). Enrolled students are ineligible, though PhD candidates may apply. Applicants must have strong working knowledge of their proposed processes. iea alumni must wait 2 years to reapply. Residents must leave work samples/copies for the iea Archive.

How to Apply

Email a 2-page PDF application to iea@alfred.edu with the appropriate subject line (e.g., iea New Media Residency Application 2026/27). The application must include contact information, preferred AIR dates, a brief bio (300 words max), a project proposal (500 words max), and links to 5 work samples. File format must be Firstname_Lastname_NewMedia2026.pdf or Firstname_Lastname_Print2026.pdf.
