About the Open Call

The Fiction Writers program of the Oxbelly Retreat brings together writers from around the world for a week of literary and creative exchange at Costa Navarino in historic Messinia, Greece. The program supports ten emerging fictional prose writers committed to elevating their craft and contributing to intercultural dialogues. Led by Program Director Chigozie Obioma, the 2026 program includes workshops, one-on-one sessions, and a mini-residence period for writing in a serene environment. Fellows also participate in interdisciplinary programming, including readings, screenings, and panel discussions across multiple mediums. Post-retreat support includes a partnership with Granta magazine for potential publication consideration.

What is Offered

The program has no application fee and all expenses for selected fellows are fully covered, including workshops, accommodation, and participation in the retreat. Fellows also gain potential access to publication through a partnership with Granta.
