Fisura, International Festival of Experimental Film & Video
Fisura, International Festival of Experimental Film and Video, Mexico, edition 5 opens its call for entries for short films, films and audiovisual works of experimental character made by filmmakers, artists or general public (national and foreign). Participation categories: Found Footage, Video Art, Video Essay, Hybrids, Experimental Documentary, Experimental Animation, Experimental Fiction, Format 16mm/Super 8/Home movies/Glitch/Remix/Reappropriation/Performance, Indigenous Cinema (Experimental Narrative), Queer Cinema (Experimental Narrative), Ethnographic Cinema, Audiovisual Performance. Our objective as a festival is to achieve that experimental cinema has a greater boom in the social fabric and that it can also contribute generously to the Mexican audiovisual culture, opening a creative and innovative horizon to think cinema from a different place. Currently Fisura has been considered one of the best independent festivals in Mexico and Latin America for its meticulous curatorial work as well as for its quality programming. In 2021 Fisura was included by emeritus professor and experimental film pioneer, Gwendolyn Audrey Foster in her Top 15 best experimental film festivals in the world (Magazine - Sense of Cinema). In 2022, Fisura exhibited its curatorial program titled: Alterations in La Paz, Bolivia. In 2023, Fisura presented 3 curatorial programs in Havana, Cuba, as well as in several important venues in Mexico City such as the Centro de Cultura Digital and the Cineteca Silvestre Revueltas in Durango. In 2024, Fisura exhibited some of its programs at the National Cinematheque of Ecuador, Ulises Estrella and We Open Space, Austria, Vienna.

Experimental short films may participate regardless of their production date. The call is open to the public, both nationally and internationally; each participant can send a maximum of 4 films. The theme is free. Short films may belong to any of the following categories: EXPERIMENTAL, found footage, documentary, animation, video art, video performance, video essay, ethnographic cinema, remix, reappropriation, indigenous cinema (experimental), super 8, home movies. The works must have a minimum duration of 1 minute, maximum 180 minutes (short, medium and feature film). Films may be made with any type of camera or digital technology, as long as they can be exhibited in digital format. Only digital files will be received (No installations). Foreign films in a language other than Spanish must send the final file with Spanish subtitles. Failure to provide Spanish subtitles will result in automatic disqualification without a refund of the registration fee. When registering your work, do not change the password or download your project as this prevents evaluation and is grounds for disqualification. Use an email that you constantly check for registration; if your email is incorrect or unchecked, communication may be lost, and selected projects may be disqualified if digital files are not sent. Participants are responsible for the rights of the works sent. Music videos, advertising videos, or installations will not be accepted. Once the work is registered, there will be no financial refund for the registration.
Registration will be carried out exclusively through the FilmFreeway platform. Selected authors must send their film with a download link through platforms such as: Dropbox, We transfer, Vimeo, Drive or similar. The format must be MP4, H264 codec.
