Formidiables
Formidiables is a pavilion of The Wrong Biennale, 7th Edition. The pavilion will host some artists selected through an open call, while others will be selected directly by the curator. The exhibit will be curated by Michele Vitobello. In keeping with this year’s biennale theme, this call is for artists who also utilise AI – either directly, with reference, or in response. All submitted works must be created using artificial intelligence as a tool in their development. Contributions are appreciated especially through images, but we also encourage submissions of videos, as long as AI is involved in the creation process. The exhibit will take place from November 1st 2025 to March 31st 2026. There is no fee to enter. Theme: Does the awakening of machines create monsters? The advent of AI has marked the growth of interest in darker themes such as horror and gothic and consequently a greater production of related works. The pavilion aims to explore this theme and show how AI is contributing to a new era of creepy images. The genre, having in part lost its function of scaring, could be reborn in a new light, more aesthetic and contemplative, as well as encouraging a growing return to figurative art even outside of commercial creations. Michele Vitobello is an Italian photographer and media designer active in the world of fashion and music. After various video works focused on abstract art, his current point of reference and inspiration is the figurative art of the ancient Mediterranean. The interest in gothic themes instead derives from the vision of Italian genre movies of the second half of the 20th century.
Selected artists will have their work exhibited as part of the Formidiables pavilion at The Wrong Biennale, 7th Edition, from November 1st 2025 to March 31st 2026. The exhibition will be curated by Michele Vitobello.
Artists whose work utilises AI – either directly, with reference, or in response, are invited to apply. All submitted works must be created using artificial intelligence as a tool in their development. Contributions are appreciated especially through images and videos, as long as AI is involved in the creation process. Work made with AI, in collaboration with AI technology, or work that references generative technology and the image more widely is acceptable. Artists can also submit work not primarily made with AI but where AI was used in preliminary operations, studies, or as an aid to determine the final work.
