About the Open Call

The Hambidge Center is situated on 600 forested acres in the mountains of north Georgia, offering a self-directed residency program that honors the creative process. Residents are provided with private studio and living spaces, including a bathroom and full kitchen, designed to protect their time, space, and solitude. Communal vegetarian dinners are served Tuesday through Friday, fostering discussions and collaborations among residents. The center welcomes artists from over 30 states and internationally, across various disciplines including visual arts, music, culinary arts, science, writing, dance, and arts & culture administration. Specialized facilities include the Antinori Pottery Studio and a Steinway grand piano. Applicants should note the rustic and secluded nature of the studios, lack of cell service, and limited internet access in studios (WiFi available in communal areas). The center encourages applications from emerging, mid-career, and established creatives of all backgrounds.

What is Offered

Private studio and living space with a bathroom and full kitchen, communal vegetarian meals (Tuesday-Friday), access to nature trails and facilities like the Antinori Pottery Studio and a Steinway grand piano. Distinguished Fellowships are available, which remove residency fees and provide a $700 stipend for a two-week residency. Limited financial aid scholarships are also offered.

Requirements

Qualified applicants must demonstrate a level of excellence and professional practice within their discipline. Applications are judged primarily on the quality of submitted work samples and professional promise. Returning Fellows must wait 2 years after a previous residency before reapplying. Residency stays range from two to eight weeks, with one-week stays available only for Arts & Culture Administrator and Culinary applicants. Eight-week residencies are available in Fall and Spring sessions, and a maximum of four weeks in Summer.

How to Apply

All application materials must be submitted electronically through hambidge.slideroom.com. Step-by-step instructions are included in each application.
