About the Open Call

coLAB Arts is requesting applications for eight available artist residencies in New Brunswick, NJ from artists in the New Jersey/New York/Pennsylvania region. Selected artists will create a temporary public art installation for the Heartbeat of the City Arts Festival, scheduled for Fall 2026. The residency provides 24-hour access to private studio space and a $10,000 stipend. The initiative seeks work that addresses cultural history, placekeeping, and memorialization, specifically bridging the Downtown and Esperanza neighborhoods.

What is Offered

10 months of free private studio space (March - December 2026) with 24-hour access and a $10,000 commission.

Requirements

Open to artists in the NJ/NY/PA region with a history of public art creation (murals, sculptures, etc.). Artists must use the studio at least 3 days per week, participate in monthly First Friday open studio events, carry general liability insurance, and ensure work is not developed with AI.
