About the Open Call

'Instantaneous' is a group exhibition that celebrates the Polaroid/Instant photo as a one-of-a-kind, tangible object. Presented by Hawk Nest Gallery. December 12, 2025, 6:00-9:00pm at Hazroom Cooperative Studios, 1706 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60608. The show seeks artists who wish to experiment, surprise, and celebrate the materiality of instant photography. Each piece should embrace the immediacy and quirks of the medium-- some works may be physically altered through scratching, peeling, layering, or other hands-on techniques to push the possibilities of the format. Diptychs, series, collages, and solo photos are all welcome. 'Instantaneous' focuses on the Polaroid as an analog object, so no digital manipulation or scanning is allowed, please. Framing is encouraged, but not required. Work should be shipped to Chicago or hand delivered between December 1-5. Every reasonable effort will be made to protect your work while it is in the gallery's possession, but you may want to provide your own insurance. Any work remaining beyond 30 days after the closing of the show shall become the property of the gallery.

What is Offered

There is a 30% commission for any sales.

Artists interested in participating are invited to submit up to 3 pieces or work. A $10 submission fee is required for up to 3 entries. Work should be shipped to Chicago or hand delivered between December 1-5.
