Granada UNESCO City of Literature
Granada UNESCO City of Literature, a program under the Department of Culture of the Granada City Council, in collaboration with the University of Granada, announces a new edition of its International Writers in Residence Programme in Granada. This initiative aims to strengthen international cooperation in the cultural sector and support literary creation—one of the key goals established by Granada as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). Objectives include fostering connections and exchange between authors, promoting international visibility of literary authors, supporting the internationalization of the city’s cultural fabric, and positioning Granada as a cultural city and a welcoming space for international creative talent.
A 30-night stay in Granada for two writers (from November 3 to December 2, 2025) at the Corrala de Santiago, a guest residence of the University of Granada. Granada UNESCO City of Literature will cover travel expenses for each selected writer. The University of Granada will provide full board accommodation in a private room. Both institutions will offer opportunities to engage with the literary life of Granada, including meetings with local writers and participation in workshops and educational activities.
The program is open to writers and literary translators residing in any country and writing in any language. Applicants must have at least two published books (self-published works are not eligible) and an upper-intermediate level of English or Spanish. A summary of the literary project to be developed during the residency is required. Resident writers are expected to actively participate in proposed literary and cultural activities, focus on their literary project during their stay, and publicly share and promote their residency experience.
Completed applications must be submitted electronically by August 31, 2025, to Jesús Ortega at granada@granadaciudaddeliteratura.com, using the provided application form (to be opened with Adobe Acrobat).
