About the Open Call

The Research Center for Modern Art at The Met provides scholars an opportunity to conduct independent research on modern art (late 19th century to 1960s) while contributing to the scholarly atmosphere of the museum. Research areas include architecture, drawing, design, film, painting, performance, photography, prints, and sculpture. The fellowship includes stipends ($50k-$70k), a travel allowance, and opportunities for writing workshops and public engagement.

What is Offered

Stipend ($50,000–$70,000), $6,000 travel stipend, and health insurance offset.

Requirements

Applicants must be doctoral candidates, recent PhD recipients (within seven years), or established scholars. Projects must focus on modern art between the late nineteenth century and the 1960s.
