New Media Art Club
New Media Art Club’s artist bootcamp residencies are intensive, short-term programs designed for artists interested in exploring new skills with code or media. This 5th Bootcamp Residency will specifically explore the live coding language Hydra and the lightweight AI framework Teachable Machine, enabling performers to blend real-time input with code for reactive performances. Workshop leaders include Flor de Fuego and Naoto Hieda. Participants will dive into generating glitched, reactive visuals with interactive machine learning, familiarize themselves with Hydra and Teachable Machine, and brainstorm creative processes to prepare artwork for an exhibition or performance. The bootcamp embodies a vision to push the limits of live-coding, experimenting with feedback loops where digitality and dreams interact in non-linear time.
Space, financial support for travel and access if needed, mentorship, a fee of £750 for work presentation, complimentary lunch from GRAY'S Coffee Shop + Kitchen each day, and access to equipment (computers, media players, and display fixings) to support the final work.
Applicants must be available in person on January 7th and 8th, 2026, from 10am to 5pm daily at NMAC’s CoLab at LCB Depot (31 Rutland Street, LE1 1RE). Full attendance on both days is essential. Prior knowledge of Hydra/Teachable Machine is not required, but experience or a general understanding of creative coding would be helpful. Participants should come to the project with a sense of how they might like to develop their own practice with this work. New work must be created to fulfill the requirements to be awarded the fee.
Applicants must apply by 12th December 2025 via the provided Google Form, detailing their practice, portfolio, aspirations for the residency, and any specific ideas they wish to explore.
