London Contemporary Dance School
The MA Screendance programme is a one-year course (starting Jan 2026) validated by the University of the Arts, London. It aims to develop a confident, articulate, independent artistic practice and a wide professional network by combining hands-on experimentation, technical skills, contextual research, and public engagement. Students will explore the histories, contexts, and contemporary debates surrounding screendance, while developing their artistic voice and honing practical skills. The curriculum includes modules on Making Screendance (60 credits), Situating Screendance (30 credits), Communicating Screendance (30 credits) which involves creating a public screendance event (Frame Rush), and a Final Project (60 credits). The school provides extensive equipment and resources, including digital cameras, tripods, video accessories, MacBooks, edit suites, and sound equipment. Technical staff are available to advise and support students. The course schedule includes 20-30 hours per week of scheduled sessions (10.00-18.00) with designated studio space. Most sessions are on-site, though some, like the Situating Screendance module, are delivered online. Students are encouraged to develop their unique voice as filmmakers and can take on various roles in peer projects. The cohort size is typically 10-15 students. The program includes choreographic workshops and movement practices, focusing on the interdisciplinary nature of screendance rather than a daily dance class.
