About the Open Call

The Rothko Museum invites artists to apply for the Mark Rothko 2026 International Painting Symposium. Held annually during Mark Rothko's birth month, this symposium serves as a creative forum in the museum's residency framework. Over the course of two weeks, participants work in individual studios, participate in guided tours, and engage with the city's unique atmosphere and Rothko's legacy. The symposium concludes with an exhibition of the works created during the program, and pieces are subsequently added to the museum's permanent collection.

What is Offered

The museum provides catering and accommodation for the duration of the symposium, individual studio spaces, basic materials and tools, publicity and media coverage, and recreation activities including guided tours.

Requirements

Applicants must be professional artists. Selection is competition-based. Selected participants must cover their own travel costs to Daugavpils and provide any specific materials or tools not covered by the basic provisions. Artists are required to donate at least two artworks created during the symposium to the Rothko Museum.

How to Apply

Complete the online application form available on the symposium's webpage by June 1, 2026. Applicants must submit a portfolio and CV via a link (Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox, etc.) and provide an artist statement.
