EL SPACE
The residency explores heritage not as a fixed record of the past, but as an evolving space of memory, transformation, and future imagination. Selected residents are invited to investigate how cultural histories, archives, architecture, craft traditions, and collective memories can be reinterpreted through contemporary artistic and technological practices. Through site-based research and experimentation, participants will explore themes including digital heritage, artificial intelligence, oral histories, material culture, climate change, decolonial narratives, sound, image-making, and speculative futures. The programme encourages practices that exist between disciplines and challenge conventional approaches to preservation, storytelling, and cultural transmission. Residents will be based in Tunis with access to workspaces in Sidi Bou Said, including the Creative Hub at Ennejma Ezzahra Palace, while also benefiting from digital fabrication facilities such as 3D printing and laser cutting at EL FABSPACE Lac. The residency prioritises research, process, and experimentation rather than the creation of a finished exhibition work. Possible outcomes may include: Moving-image and video works Sound compositions and acoustic research Digital and interactive projects Archival or counter-archival works Prototypes and fabricated objects Hybrid artistic formats Selected residents receive: Two-month residency in Tunis, Tunisia Accommodation Travel support Meal support Production support and access to fabrication facilities Curatorial and research mentorship Access to cultural institutions, archives, and collections Public presentation and professional exchange opportunities
