The 'Syncretic Bio-Shelters' residency, part of the Matera – Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026, invites one fashion/accessories designer (aged 26-45) and one digital fabrication expert (aged 25-30) from Mediterranean countries. Selected artists will design wearable 'shelters' against climate change by integrating Mediterranean traditions with cutting-edge tech like 3D printing and Arduino. The 4-week residency includes community exploration, prototyping, and production at Officina Creativa.
Each selected artist receives a 1,400 EUR artistic fee plus up to 1,400 EUR for travel and accommodation.
Applicants must be from a Mediterranean country. Designer: 3+ years experience in sustainable fashion, knowledge of sustainable textiles, leadership skills. Digital Expert: 3+ years experience in digital fabrication (3D printing, Arduino, etc.) and cross-sector collaboration.
