Goethe-Institut
Are you a female identifying photographer eager to connect across borders and build lasting artistic networks? This residency offers more than just time and space to create — it’s a platform for international exchange, peer learning, and collaborative growth. Participants will engage in a vibrant dialogue with fellow photographers from Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Tamil Nadu (India), sharing perspectives on feminism and family while building connections that extend beyond the residency. Through joint activities, community engagement, and curated encounters, the program fosters a supportive environment for creative and critical exchange. Residency Theme: Across cultures and generations, the concept of “family” has been both a site of belonging and a battleground for feminist critique. This residency invites female identifying photographers to explore how family structures and feminist perspectives intersect, clash, and co-evolve. Are feminism and family mutually exclusive? Can family be a source of strength for feminist expression? What kinds of families challenge traditional norms — and how are these stories told through photography?
The residency programme covers flights, visa fees, accommodation, a weekly stipend for three weeks residency and production funding. Following the residency, the works will be exhibited in Sofia in June 2026.
Identify as a female photographer based in Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary or Tamil Nadu (India). Prior work or strong interest on themes of family and/or feminism. Experience in exhibiting your Photography. Fluent in English. Available for the residency period (19 Januanry to 7 February 2026).
