About the Open Call

The residency programme that is carried out throughout the year is at the heart of PACT Zollverein’s day-to-day work. Running since 2002, it offers artists and cultural professionals from all over the world a space to develop artistic projects and productions. In conjunction with the areas of stage, platform, and urban space, an exchange between theoretical and practical work takes place at the Artists’ House. There is the possibility of an internal showing at the end of the residency, but this is not a requirement – the focus is on the process of the artistic work. The arrangement of the residency is flexible: residets can discuss, develop and rehearse independently in their own designated studio; if needed, they have access to all of PACT’s facilities (rehearsal rooms, kitchen, Wi-Fi, etc.) at any time. The PACT online journal gives artists-in-residence the opportunity to document their current work processes and projects, making them accessible to the public. Thanks to the support of the Ministry for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, residency recipients receive a grant to cover their living expenses and travel costs. Residences are advertised twice a year through an open call and are awarded by an international jury. A residency project will not have a public showing at PACT Zollverein. Possible working fields of a residency include Dance / Choreography, Performance, Media art / installation, Video art / Film, Music / sound art, Science, Urban Research, Technology, Architecture.
