About the Open Call

The Smack Mellon Studio Program is a year-long fellowship for six emerging artists. Three artists will receive the New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowship. The program runs from September 5, 2027, to August 5, 2028. Applicants must be NYC residents, legal US residents or citizens, not enrolled in a degree program, and demonstrate a need for studio space.

What is Offered

Six fellowships including free studio space, regular studio visits with NYC curators, and public open studio events.

Requirements

Must be an emerging artist, NYC resident for at least one year prior to deadline, US citizen or permanent resident, 18 years or older, not enrolled in a degree program, and able to demonstrate financial need.

How to Apply

Submit application through the Smack Mellon Submittable portal. Include up to 10 still images OR 2 videos and 5 still images, formatted as specified.
