About the Open Call

Strata Gallery's juried exhibition, “Small Works,” aims to celebrate the power of small artworks that invite viewers to explore the intricacies of minute details. All media is welcome, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, textiles, and mixed media. Artwork must not exceed 16 inches in any dimension, including the frame. The exhibition will run from January 6 - 23, 2026, at Strata Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Application requirements include an Artist Statement and Bio combo (100-125 words, 1000 character limit), a CV (optional, PDF preferred), and 3-6 artwork JPGs. Artwork must be hang/display ready with proper hardware. 2D artwork maximum size is 16” x 16” including frame, and 3D artwork maximum size is 16” x 16” x 16” with a max weight of 25 lbs. Submitted work must remain available for the duration of the exhibition. About Strata Gallery: A non-profit, artist-member gallery dedicated to cultivating artistic discussion and educating the public about contemporary established and emerging artists. They offer a mentorship program and encourage experimentation and diverse expression. About the Jurors: The exhibition is juried by David Olivant (President and co-founder, MA in Painting from Royal College of Art, London), Jennifer Van (Director and co-founder, MFA in Photography and Media from California Institute of the Arts), and Stephanie Jacinto (Assistant Director and co-founder). Selection Criteria Include: Completeness of application, uniqueness and originality, visual impact, and demonstrated excellence of technique. Exhibition Calendar: - October 1, 2025 – CaFÉ Submission Deadline - November 1, 2025 – Notification Date - November 15, 2025 – Deadline for Loan Agreement - December 10, 2025 – Shipped artwork must arrive - January 3, 2026 – Hand-delivered artwork must arrive (11am - 1pm) - January 6 - 23, 2026 – Exhibition Dates - January 9, 2026 – Reception Date (5-7pm) - January 24, 2026 – Pickup of Hand-delivered artwork (11am - 1pm) - Week of January 25, 2025 – Artworks shipped back to artists Sales of Artwork: Artists will handle the sale and shipping of any sold artwork. Strata Gallery will collect buyer contact information and provide it to the artist. A 20% commission is due to Strata Gallery on all sales procured through the exhibition. Artwork must be for sale. Insurance: Strata Gallery insures objects while at the Gallery but not in transit. The Gallery is not responsible for fragile, unstable, or improperly prepared artwork, or work left beyond the designated pick-up day. Artists must provide pre-paid shipping labels for return shipments, and original containers must be reusable.

What is Offered

Selected artists will have their work featured in a juried exhibition at Strata Gallery. Prizes include $100 for President’s Choice, $100 for Director’s Choice, and $100 for Assistant Director's Choice. Artists will also have the opportunity to sell their artwork, with Strata Gallery facilitating buyer contact and taking a 20% commission on sales.

Requirements

The opportunity is open to international artists. All media is welcome, including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, textiles, and mixed media. Artwork must not exceed 16 inches in any dimension, including the frame (for 2D work, 16” x 16”; for 3D work, 16” x 16” x 16”). The maximum weight for artwork is 25 lbs. All artwork must be hang/display ready with proper hardware. Submitted work must remain available for the duration of the exhibition. Once submitted, no changes to information can be made. Artists must ensure their artwork containers are fit for reshipment if the work is to be returned by mail.

How to Apply

Artists can apply through the Call for Entry (CaFÉ) platform by the deadline of October 1, 2025. Applicants need to prepare an Artist Statement and Bio combo (100-125 words, 1000 character limit), optionally a CV (PDF preferred), and 3-6 JPG images of their artwork. The submission fee is $35 for the first three submissions, with an additional $5 per subsequent submission, up to a maximum of six total submissions. Payment is accepted via card and PayPal through CallForEntry.org. Technical support for the application process should be directed to the CaFÉ support team.
