About the Open Call

The Grove Gallery in Downtown Evanston, IL is seeking 2D paintings, drawings and prints for their December Small Works Holiday Exhibition. Jurors are Lisa Degliantoni and Liz Cramer, Directors of Evanston Made. No application fee is required, and artists may submit up to 3 pieces, with only one application per artist. The size limit is 24" on the longest side and the price limit is under $1500. Artists must be local and live within a 100-mile radius of Evanston. Accepted work needs to be hand-delivered, not shipped. Eligible media include original oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel paintings; pen and ink, watercolor travel illustrations, collage, and mixed media paintings (all 2D, hand-made, one of a kind, sit flush with the wall, weigh less than 2 pounds). Drawings include charcoal, pastel, graphite, pen and ink, colored pencil, and scratchboard. Hand-pulled prints such as woodcuts, etchings, drypoint, intaglio, monotypes, monoprints, linoprints, collagraphs, and chine colle are accepted. Ineligible media are giclee prints, photographic prints, ink-jet prints, sculpture, and relief sculpture. Image submission guidelines require high-res, non-glare, 300 DPI images at least 2000 pixels on the longest side, no larger than 4800 pixels. Framing is not required before submission, but if framed, images of the frame should be included. Simple, clean frames in white, black, or neutral (metal or wood) are preferred for accepted work. Detail shots are encouraged. Archival (acid-free) materials are required, including cotton-rag paper, acid-free foam core and mat board, and primed canvases. Warped canvases will not be accepted, and all work must be in excellent condition. The exhibition runs from December 6th to December 22nd, 2025, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, December 6th, from 2 to 5 PM. A helpful video tutorial is available for the user entry process.
