About the Open Call

Stone Canoe is an annual publication from The YMCA's Downtown Writers Center showcasing work from artists and writers with strong connections to Upstate New York. Submissions are accepted in various genres with specific deadlines: Fiction (July 15), Nonfiction (July 22), Drama (July 29), Poetry (August 18), and Visual Art (September 15). Applicants must be current or former residents of Upstate New York (excluding NYC and Long Island). Work must be previously unpublished. The organization maintains a family-oriented standard and is committed to being a welcoming, equitable, and antiracist organization.
