Underground Art and Design (UAAD) and Liminal
Underground Art and Design (UAAD) and Liminal are co-presenting TechnoMirage, an Event Series on Creative AI and Speculative Futures. The series aims to puncture the illusion of progress projected by AI, reclaiming the future for refusal, reworlding, and radical play. It includes: 1. Virtual Exhibition: Ghost in the Feedback Loop, inviting artists whose work critically engages AI and algorithms, focusing on visibility, distortion, and erasure in machine learning. 2. Panel Talk: Rewiring futures of creative AI, a two-part series (in-person in NYC and global online co-hosted with Parsons School of Design) exploring speculative technofutures, AI ethics, and cultural agency. 3. Community Workshop: Held in-person alongside the NYC panel talk, an interactive session to co-create speculative visions and toolkits for AI as a collective, liberatory force. 4. Publication: Following previous UAAD formats, this digital publication will include featured artworks, text-based interviews, highlights from panel discussions, creative strategies from the workshop, and photo documentation. The NYC Event will also include a Live Performance, welcoming artists working with sound, movement, live visuals, or other real-time media whose works distort, disrupt, or reframe machine logic.
All selected participants will receive: a feature on UAAD’s website (reaching audiences in 103 countries), dedicated social media features, a spotlight in their weekly newsletter (6,000+ subscribers), and media exposure through distribution on major U.S. platforms. Additional benefits include: for Virtual Exhibition, inclusion in a permanent online exhibition (New Art City) and a text-based interview published in the TechnoMirage publication; for In-Person Panel (NYC) and Virtual Panel (Global), an artist honorarium ($75-100), live conversation and networking; for Live Performance, an artist honorarium (ticket revenue share) and photo and video documentation.
Open call for artists, designers, technologists, researchers, writers, worldbuilders, and collective practitioners from any discipline or background. All mediums welcome, including generative art and design, code-based experiments, narrative fiction, poetry, AI-assisted photography and film, animation, interactive web pieces, sound art, game design/virtual environments/world-building, and mixed/hybrid forms.
