About the Open Call

The International Biennial The Art of Miniature’s primary objective is to promote and encourage the creation of miniature works of fine art and photography. It is held every two years, with the first edition in 2007. The International Biennial “The Art of Miniature” is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Ruse Municipality. It is organized by the Ruse Municipality, the Art Gallery – Ruse, and the Union of Bulgarian Artists. The jury, which includes representatives from the Ruse Municipality, the Union of Bulgarian Artists, the Art Gallery – Ruse, and foreign artists and art critics, will select the works for the exhibition and the awards. It is held in the exhibition halls of Art Gallery – Ruse from October to December. The Biennial’s official languages are Bulgarian and English. The audience will vote in the Gallery during the exhibition opening to determine the prize. Cultural institutions, organizers, and sponsors will also provide prizes.

What is Offered

The Ruse Municipality is offering a grand prize of 2,000 BGN and five equivalent prizes of 1,100 BGN for different types of artistic work in 5 sections: painting; graphics; sculpture; drawing; and new media/ photography. The awarded works are entered into the fund of Art Gallery – Ruse. The organizers publish a catalog.

Requirements

The International Biennial The Art of Miniature is open to national and international artists. The Biennial accepts artwork in 5 sections: Paintings; Prints; Sculpture; Drawings; and New Media/Photography. The display area of two-dimensional works must not exceed 110 square centimeters (e.g., 10 x 11 cm, 7 x 15 cm, etc.). The dimensions of three-dimensional works must be 10 cm wide, 10 cm deep, and 12 cm high excluding the base. All prints and castings should have an issue number. Submitted works must be created by the participants and owned by them. Each author may submit up to three works in each section. The works must have been created in the last two years, and they cannot have participated or been awarded in other national or international forums.

How to Apply

Participation requires acceptance of the biennial statute. Artists must submit their artwork to Ruse Art Gallery, 39, Borisova Street, 7000 Ruse, Bulgaria, by the deadline. Registration forms and labels are available for download on the website.
