About the Open Call

The Caterpillar Poetry Prize is an annual award for a single unpublished poem written by an adult for children (aged 7–11). Judged anonymously, the prize has previously been awarded by figures such as Michael Rosen and Roger McGough. The winning poems are published in the Irish Times online.

What is Offered

1st prize: €1,000 plus a week at The Moth Retreat in Ireland; 2nd prize: €500; 3rd prize: €250. Winning poems are published in the Irish Times online.

Requirements

Open to anyone over 16. Work must be original and previously unpublished. Poems can be on any subject but must be written for children aged 7–11.

How to Apply

Entries can be submitted online or by mail. For mail entries, send the poem(s) with an entry form and a cheque or postal order to: The Caterpillar, Ardan Grange, Milltown, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, Ireland H14 K768. Online submissions are handled through the website.
