About the Open Call

The Other Almanac is looking for creative non-fiction, fresh journalistic essays, and visual work for their upcoming edition. Submissions should cover a wide array of topics including ecology, plants, migration, animals, cities, art, architecture, farming, fermenting, war, celebrities, cooking, artificial intelligence, biology, design, climate, water, technology, incarceration, calendars, the planets, and culture. They seek monthly (12) or seasonal (4) column ideas and original art images across all 2D and 3D materials.

What is Offered

Honorarium of $150 for written work and $50 for visual work.

Requirements

Looking for creative non-fiction or journalistic essays (no traditional research papers). Essays must be 500-1400 words. Visual work must be original art in 2D or 3D formats. Column content must relate to monthly or seasonal changes.

How to Apply

Email submissions to hello@otheralmanac.com with 'open call' in the subject line. For essays, keep word counts between 500-1400. For pitches, include a link to past writing and an outline/sample. For columns, monthly word counts should be under 200 and seasonal under 400.
