About the Open Call

The Working Class Writers Grant supports writers historically underrepresented in speculative fiction due to financial barriers. The grant is open to international applicants and is intended for those working with speculative literature, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, ghost stories, and magical realism. Winners may choose to receive the grant anonymously or pseudonymously. Applicants are prioritized based on financial need.

$1,000 USD grant

Requirements

Applicants must identify as working class, blue-collar, financially disadvantaged, or homeless. The work must be speculative in nature.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form available at the Speculative Literature Foundation website during the month of September. Applicants must submit a cover letter/personal statement (up to 750 words) and a writing sample (up to 10 pages of poetry/drama or 5,000 words of prose).
