About the Open Call

The Touring Fund for Theatre and Dance supports professional theatre and dance productions of varying scales to tour across Scotland. This includes outdoor, circus, interdisciplinary and site-specific work. It aims to bring high quality performances to more places and people across Scotland, supporting a mix of artists, producers, venues and companies. The fund supports new productions, revivals, successful past shows, and productions that have been developed but not yet toured. The fund does not support non-theatre or dance touring work, early-stage research and development projects that won’t result in a tour, productions that will not tour or visit up to three locations, work designed for schools/day centres/care homes, work for online/digital dissemination, new work with no live performance, digital versions of live work, or Edinburgh Festival Fringe/International Festival as the sole focus of funding application.

What is Offered

The fund offers financial grants to support the creation and touring of live professional theatre and dance productions across Scotland. There are no set limits on the amount applicants can request, with previous rounds having a budget of £2,000,000. Successful applicants' funded work is offered to venues at no cost, with the grant covering production and touring expenses. Additionally, artists/producers retain 20% of box office income from their tours, while venues receive 80%.

Requirements

Applicants must be based in Scotland and involved in the production and/or touring of professional live theatre and dance. This includes individual dance and theatre artists, companies, organisations, independent producers (on their own or on behalf of artists), and consortia of venues presenting a shared touring programme. All applicants must have a UK bank account. Multi-Year Funded Organisations whose funding agreement includes making and touring theatre and/or dance, applicants relying on Open Funds for Organisations or Individuals, student/non-professional companies, and applicants seeking support for tours outside Scotland are not eligible.

How to Apply

All applications must be made through Creative Scotland’s online Funding Management System. Applicants should register on the system, log in, select the 'Touring Fund for Theatre and Dance' application form, and complete it as instructed. The form can be saved and returned to at any time before the deadline. Access support is available through a dedicated button. The completed application form must be submitted before the deadline to receive a confirmation message and reference number.
