Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity
Visual Arts residencies at Banff Centre are structured programs of faculty-led activity and mentorship, supporting project-based studio practice. This program focuses on critical thinking about the archive as a method or technology for re-storying narratives. Participants will have access to Whyte Museum and Banff Centre archives by prior arrangement. The residency includes individual studios, shared production facilities, faculty studio visits, lectures, and workshops to foster a professional community.
Scholarships available: All participants receive a Banff Centre Arts Scholarship covering 100% of tuition and 25% of meal/accommodation. Canadian Indigenous applicants receive 100% coverage for all costs. Includes single room accommodation, $68/day meal credit, individual studio space, and access to fitness/recreation facilities.
Artists or duos (max 2) with formal post-secondary training in visual arts or equivalent experience. Open to individual artists working in ceramics, digital media, painting, drawing, printmaking, papermaking, photography, sculpture, and installation. Must be 18+ and available for the full program duration (Nov 02 - Dec 04, 2026).
1. Complete the online form on the Banff Centre website. 2. Pay the application fee ($65 for individuals, $35 for Indigenous applicants). 3. Upload materials to SlideRoom, including a 2-page resume, 250-word artist statement, 500-word project proposal, resource requests, and a portfolio of 6-10 work samples.
