About the Open Call
Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) is an international competition showcasing innovative visual art. The exhibition is held in the cloisters of Wells Cathedral, the first Gothic cathedral in England, receiving 18,000 monthly visitors. Artists over 18 may enter up to 4 works in any style or medium including painting, drawing, sculpture, print, photography, video, digital, textile, and ceramics. The exhibition runs from 10 October to 7 November 2026.
What is Offered
Selected artists will have their work exhibited at Wells Cathedral with opportunities to win cash prizes, residencies, and mentorship. Works may be offered for sale.
Requirements
Applicants must be over 18 years of age on 1 January 2025. Artwork must meet specific dimension constraints (max 3.5m wide x 2.5m high x 2m deep). Artists are responsible for insurance, shipping, and delivery/collection costs.
